At CEDA, we’re always here to support your day-to-day operations and lobby on your behalf. But did you know there’s a way you can double up and amplify your voice even more?

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is a leading advocacy organization, offering business support and cost-saving programs to independent business owners across Canada. As a recognized CEDA partner since 2016, CFIB continues to provide our membership with access to programs and services that facilitate dealership efficiency, productivity, and profitability.

As a CEDA member, you can subscribe to CFIB through CEDA for an annual flat fee of $250, which includes all satellite locations. For large multi-store dealerships, there’s the potential to save thousands of dollars. Let’s dive a little deeper into what CFIB does and how a membership can benefit you and your business.

Advocacy and Lobbying Efforts

CFIB's primary mission is advocating for the needs of independent business owners by lobbying the government at all levels. With a dedicated advocacy team, CFIB addresses issues vital to the success of small and medium-sized businesses.

For example, they fought for the successfully passed Bill C 208, enabling business owners to sell their businesses to family members without incurring excessive taxes. CFIB has also worked on Bill C 206, aiming to exempt farmers from the carbon tax on various fuels used in their agricultural operations.

Support is Always a Phone Call Away

When it comes to tackling government compliance, HR challenges, or any business-related issues, CFIB stands as a reliable go-to. They have a team of over 30 full-time business counselors ready to take your call and support you through the complexities of running a business. While they are not meant to replace your accountants or lawyers, CFIB is well-equipped to address a wide range of concerns. The best part is that there's no cost for members to access this valuable support network.

Cybersecurity Academy

Offered for free to CFIB members, Cybersecurity Academy is a highly recommended program for protecting your business from cyber threats in today's tech-driven world. It's all about empowering business owners like you with the knowledge and tools to keep your valuable data and assets safe from sneaky cybercriminals.

With nearly half of small businesses experiencing cyberattacks these days, being proactive in defending your business is a must. The academy offers specialized courses on everything from cyber basics to spotting social engineering tricks and recognizing fraud so you can safeguard your business from potential breaches, financial losses, and even reputation damage.

Informed Legal Decisions with Blue J

Imagine having expert guidance at your fingertips when dealing with complex legal decisions. That's exactly what the CFIB’s Blue J program offers. The platform utilizes an extensive database of legal rulings to predict outcomes for specific situations you provide, helping you make informed decisions. Whether you're trying to figure out termination payments, accommodating an employee with a doctor's note, or dealing with tax implications for sales in different provinces, Blue J has your back.

Blue J can also help you determine if a worker should be classified as an employee or contractor, or if your family member working for you is eligible for EI. It's a game-changer for any business owner, and it's all included in your CFIB membership!
